The Most Honest Speech Ever | AUCA

The Valedictorian Speech given by Aiza Aidekova on AUCA's commencement ceremony.

Now I will be honest with you, the main reason I came to AUCA was because my parents wanted this. The argument they kept using was “You know, it is the best university in Central Asia”. But for me, their words did not make any sense. I expected hard work and boring lectures.

And you know what? None of my expectations came true (except hard work). AUCA is a special place, where
• Students can play basketball with their president
• You can come wearing pajamas and win the prize for it
• Professors use Latin dance to teach Plato
• There is a place called WARC, which is open 24 hours a day to help you understand any course and bear with you the burden of learning
• Professors become your friends and your fellow students become your new family

On the surface, none of these makes sense, but that has truly changed my perception of what the university life and life in general should be.

And even though I do not yet have a clear picture of what my future will be, I know exactly how I want it to be. I want it to have the same qualities that our university life had: I want us and people around us to be unafraid of potential barriers, open-minded, sincere and dedicated to their mission. I want to see a unique vision and unconventional learning and working methods.

And now I would like to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to both the government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the government of the United States of America for giving us opportunity to experience this.
