A quick review...
To escape the mount--
1- DON'T PUNCH! The bad guy can hit you, but you usually can't hit them. It's just the way it is.
2 - DON'T ELBOW! Spearing your elbows into the thighs or groin may cause a brief distraction, but it typically won't be enough to stop the attack.
3 - DON'T ROLL OVER! It's natural to turn away when you're being hit in the face, but that only makes your position worse.
What should you do?
1- BRIDGE! Shifting your attacker's weight forward will force them to put their hands on the ground, which will stop their punches and give you a chance to...
2 - TRAP AN ARM! Take away one of their weapons and the ability to stop you from rolling them off of you.
3 - BRIDGE AND ROLL! Trap the same side foot bump them forward... and step over to get on top.
What about pins?
If you end up with your hands pinned to your chest or the ground, pressing up is a waste of time and energy. But all is not lost--you can usually still slide your hands up and down.
So, move your hands into a position where you can trap both of your attacker's hands with one of yours. Freeing one of your hands is a lot easier than trying to free both!
This is a basic movement that teaches many powerful principles. Grab a training partner and you'll find many variations.
