Kash Patel Sues Over Drinking Claims as Past Arrests Surface

FBI Director Kash Patel has filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit against The Atlantic and reporter Sarah Fitzpatrick over an article alleging excessive drinking and unexplained absences that have alarmed colleagues and raised national security concerns. The Intercept subsequently reported on a 2005 letter from Patel’s personnel file in which he admitted to two alcohol-related arrests from his student days: public intoxication (underage) in 2001 and public urination after drinking in 2005. Patel has strongly denied the current allegations, stating he has never been intoxicated on the job, while President Trump continues to stand by him as FBI Director. The Atlantic stands by its reporting.
