Living off grid in the Alaska wilderness has plenty of challenges, and a huge one for us, since we can't afford our own bush plane, is going well over 100 days without a trip into town.
Every year at the end of tourist season in September weekly supplies stop getting flown in, and all float-plane pilots start to convert their planes to land on ice with skis.
So while we wait for ice on the lake, or enough snow to snowmobile into town ourselves there is a crazy long time where we just sit tight and hope our huge supply list will be enough to get us until winter's deep freeze.
