A Train after 20 Years | Inaugural | Hassan Intercity Express | Indian Railways

Watch the Hassan - Bangalore new line, Grand Inauguration of the Train.The Hassan - Bangalore direct line , a dream child of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, which was sanctioned in the year 1996-1997 at a cost of 295 crores then , is finally opened for Traffic on 26 March 2017 after a good wait of 20 long years to complete the 172-km stretch between Bengaluru and Hassan via Chikkabanawara, Nelamangala, Kunigal,Yediyur, Shravanaabelagola and Hassan. The project was stalled for several years due to Land acquisition problems and lack of funds which further costed the railways a bomb and ended up costing almost 1300 crores by the time the Project neared completion in 2017.

The new line connects various places of historical and religious importance, including Yediyur (Siddalingeshwara), Adichunchanagiri, Shravanabelagola, Kukke Subrahmanya/Dharmasthala, and Mangaluru. It also connects commercial places including Kunigal, Hassan, Sakleshpur, and Mangaluru.
The alternate route to Hassan all this while was via Tumkur-Arsikere or via Mysore which was extremely Circuitous adding a extra 50 KM and 85 KM respectively.
