The Origin of Jericho Drumm (aka Brother Voodoo/Doctor Voodoo)

A Sorcerer Supreme, Avenger, legendary magician, and more, Doctor Voodoo has been many things since he was first created in 1973. Today, we go over his origins and how he as a character came to be Brother Voodoo, his first superhero identity.

Created at the suggestion of Stan Lee and Roy Thomas, Len Wein and John Romita Sr. worked together to create this cool new superhero in the comic Strange Tales #169. We go over it, and Strange Tales #170-173, all of which detail Brother Voodoo's early days establishing himself as a powerful superhero. We'll also cover some stuff from Tales of the Zombie #6 to round everything out, a black-and-white magazine title used to escew concerns about censorship through the comics code authority.

When Jericho Drumm, a famed doctor, returns to his childhood home of Haiti, he finds his brother Daniel afflicted with a deadly curse. Learn here how this culminates in Brother Voodoo. Arden will also discuss some of his early escapades against forces such as Baron Samedi himself, AIM, and the mysterious Mama Limbo. We'll also discuss Brother Voodoo's early powers as they pertain to mystical telepathy, pyrokinesis, enhanced physiology and control over spirits from voodoo beliefs known as Loa. Enjoy!
