VERY RARE air pistol restoration - Caliber .177 pop-out model
Restoration of a very rare POP-OUT air pistol caliber .177 from Heyms in Germany - produced in the late 50s. I will restore this poorly maintained pistol and do a full shooting test.
THE AIR PISTOL
Is a .177 caliber (4.5mm) pop out air pistol manufactured by F. W. Heym GmbH & Co. K.G. of Münnerstadt in Germany. There was only produced around 1500 of these in the time from 1949 to 1956, so it is very rare. The company still exists as Heym AG and produce handcrafted, luxurious firearms. I got this beauty from my local antique dealer.
THE RESTORATION PROCESS
I disassembled the gun and cleaned it with sandblasting using aluminium-oxide as a media. I used vinegar, light acid, and the mini tumbler to all the small parts. I used fire and oil to make the small parts black and I used black heat resistance spray paint to paint the gun.
There was only half a handle on the gun when I got it, so I had to craft 2 new handles of Swedish oak. I gave the gun two new sealing rings and a new spring to hold the trigger. After I cleaned the barrel, I did a test shoot in the garage.
