A reduction mammoplasty, or breast reduction, is the removal of excess fat and skin from the chest. This is commonly done among women with large breasts who experience chronic pain in the back, neck, or shoulders. It is also commonly performed to help women reach a desired proportion to their bodies.

Breast reduction recovery time will vary from patient to patient but there are some general guidelines that are typical for most patients:

- No matter who you go to, the typical recovery time is 6 weeks until you're allowed to do any type of a strenuous exercise or lift over 20lbs. This applies no matter how good you feel.

- Early recovery time can be between 3 - 6 day and most patients never even take any type of narcotics, typically just taking Tylenol or something in that range. At this point, you're still taking it easy but you're able to function pretty normally.

- Long-term recovery, as in how long will it take for your breast to settle into its final look and position, usually takes up to three months.

We always check in with you at six weeks to see how the recovery is going and to verify you're recovering properly. From there, we'll determine whether or not you're able to get back to regular exercise and normal physical activities.
