He is a man who loves monsters and he has brought that love to the mainstream cinema, thrilling and challenging audiences around the world from Cronos to The Devil's Backbone to Pan's Labyrinth, the Hellboy films, Pacific Rim, and now, Crimson Peak. He talks to David Poland for an hour about his films and his evolution. This is the first half of that conversation.
