Teodor Currentzis and “Plan B” – a film in place of live concerts | Music Documentary

Spring 2020 was meant to be a highlight for conductor Teodor Currentzis and his musicians of the MusicAeterna orchestra – they were going to be performing all of Ludwig van Beethoven‘s symphonies at the Beethovenfest in Bonn and in Vienna. Then, however, came corona lockdown, and everything changed. The artists made virtue of necessity; the idea for the film "Plan B" was born. "B" as in "Beethoven".

Departing from Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, with its message of unity, freedom, and brotherhood, Currentzis and Sergey Nurmamed – a Russian film director living in the US – incorporated the experience of solitude in lockdown. They’ve created a cinematic hymn that sings praises of the arts’ common ground.

The city of St. Petersburg and the city center’s majestic Dom Radio building on Arts Square are key elements, serving almost as independent "actors" within the movie. The Dom Radio building has served as MusicAeterna’s orchestra and choir headquarters since 2019.
