Sweet and Low is a musical revue produced by Billy Rose and starring James Barton, Fanny Brice, George Jessel, and Arthur Treacher. It features sketches by David Freedman and songs by various composers and lyricists.
The 1930 Broadway production was directed by Alexander Leftwich and choreographed by Danny Dare, with additional dances staged by Busby Berkeley. Scenic design was by Jo Mielziner. It ran for a week at the Majestic Theatre in Brooklyn before opening on November 17, 1930 at Chanin's 46th Street Theatre, where it ran for 184 performances. Although it rarely sold out, Rose transferred it to the 44th Street Theatre, where it was more successful at the box office.
Overnight (Music by Louis Alter; Lyrics by Billy Rose and Charlotte Kent)

Ruth Etting (November 23, 1896 – September 24, 1978) was an American singing star and actress of the 1920s and 1930s, who had over 60 hit recordings and worked in stage, radio, and film. Known as "America's sweetheart of song", her signature tunes were "Shine On, Harvest Moon", "Ten Cents a Dance" and "Love Me or Leave Me". Her other popular recordings included "Button Up Your Overcoat", "Mean to Me", "Exactly Like You" and "Shaking the Blues Away".
Etting died in Colorado Springs in 1978, aged 80.

Lyrics:
I don't know why, but the thrill is gone
And what was can't go on
I only know that the flame is cold
Love was young, now it's old
Overnight I found you
And overnight I lost you
It was sublime, now it's time
To sigh "Goodbye"
Love is dead, long live love
The spark has fled, let's give love
A friendly cheer, quite sincere
And sigh "Goodbye"
There was a dream
An intimate dream we used to share
Then I awoke
And suddenly found a stranger there
Overnight I found you
And overnight I lost you
Now let's agree gracefully
To sigh "Goodbye"
(Instrumental Break)
Overnight I found you
And overnight I lost you
Now left to grieve
Gracefully to sigh "Goodbye"
