Lack of alternative Gaza plan only helps Israeli government: Analysis

Alon Liel, former director general of Israel’s Foreign Ministry, says the Arab world and the rest of the international community have yet to present an alternative to the Israeli-backed US plan for Gaza.
“As long as you don’t have an alternative plan and the only plan is Trump’s, it is helping the government of Israel to act accordingly,” he told Al Jazeera from Tel Aviv.
Liel said a plan from Arab leaders must clearly outline the roles of Palestinian and Arab countries, as well as the rest of the world, in the rebuilding and running of Gaza.
“Opposition to the Trump plan is not enough in words. You have to agree on an alternative and back it in a way that you have the logistics and financing,” he said.
He pointed out that Egypt is interested in moving quickly due to the potential damage it could suffer from the ramifications of Trump’s plan.
