San Francisco Cable Car is manually operated, and riding this car is a very interesting experience. Each car is operated by a gripman, or a driver, and a conductor. There is a turntable at the cable car terminal. When the car comes to the end stop, the gripman gets out and with help from an assistant manually rotates the car on a turntable. In this video you will see a turntable at Market street being turned. It was very surprising to see how such a heavy car is turned around practically by one person.
