Second HPDE Drive @ Road America 4 Mile Course - 9/27/2025 Session #2

My second outing at Road America on the high speed 4 mile course and first time with the kink!

My first session the previous month was a massive learning experience. I cooked the brake fluid and the pedal went to the floor the first time sending it into T5 at full chat. I spent the rest of that day nursing the car around the track learning to deal with a compromised braking system.

Before this session I updated the brakes with fresh Castrol SRF and some more aggressive pads (Hawk HP+). This session was going to be focused on pushing the brakes to failure to understand when and how quickly the falloff would occur. Clear skies and much higher air temps resulted in a *MUCH* greasier surface than my last session. The tires very quickly proved be the limiting factor as I ran out of grip before I ran out of brakes! The system took it like a champ and never reached fading thresholds! However it is clear it will need more stopping power for next season. Even more aggressive pads and fresh rotors are on the menu over winter.

Lessons learned and the focus for the next session will prioritize better traffic management and sorting out over-braking while slowing my hands down to reduce overwhelming the suspension. I was unhappy with how I handled facilitating some passes and taking way too long to properly clock closing distances.

I also learned quite a bit about my A/V and data acquisition workflow and how it didn't work... we'll have it sorted for next time! All runs were supposed to have three cams + external mic, suffice to say each run was missing a different combination of those elements due to user error.

It was great seeing another stock challenger out there having a rip too!
