Nansha New Area is located in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, relying on the Pearl River Delta region. In June 1990, Nansha was identified as a key opening-up area and economic development zone. On May 12, 1993, the State Council approved the establishment of Guangzhou Nansha Economic Development Zone. In 2005, Nansha was transformed into an independent administrative region. On September 6, 2012, the State Council formally approved the "Guangzhou Nansha New Area Development Plan." On October 11, 2012, the State Council Information Office held a press conference for Chinese and foreign journalists to introduce the "Guangzhou Nansha New Area Development Plan" recently approved by the State Council. Nansha New Area became the sixth national-level new area in the country.
On April 7, 2017, the National Development and Reform Commission formulated and issued the "Key Points for System and Mechanism Innovation in National New Districts in 2017". Guangdong and Hong Kong will establish a "Guangdong-Hong Kong in-depth cooperation zone" in the Nansha Free Trade Zone. Industrial development will focus on R&D and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, international education and training, financial services, professional services, business services, leisure travel and health services, and shipping Eight industries including logistics services and information technology.
