Santa Fe Train N34 With Helpers - La Mesa Model Railroad Club

Today's N34 is handling shorts primarily for Boron (US Borax/Edwards AFB), and Barstow. Before exiting Southern Pacific trackage at Mojave, a small reduction of potash hoppers are left for interchange to the Trona Railway at Searles by the SP. Once the Mojave work is complete, the train will depart for Edwards (Murock) and Boron where most of it will be reduced. Petroleum products for the United States Air Force from the Standard Oil refinery in Richmond, CA are on order including cars of helium which were stored at the Concord Naval Weapons Depot.

Empty hoppers will be replenished with borates from the Pacific Coast Borax Company as boxcars filled with materials will be emptied then filled with refined Borax products.

The balance of the train will terminate at Barstow and trimmed for other destinations.
