Boeing Fuel Switch Mystery Deepens | India To Monitor Sensitive 787 Tests In Seattle

The spotlight is once again on Boeing’s Dreamliner fuel-control switches — the same switches that came under scrutiny after the deadly Air India crash in Gujarat that killed 260 people.

According to a Reuters report, Indian aviation safety officials will travel to Seattle to directly monitor Boeing’s testing of a fuel-switch module removed from an Air India 787 aircraft earlier this year.

The module was taken out after pilots on a London-to-Bengaluru flight reported unusual behaviour during engine start-up, raising fresh safety concerns around the fuel-control system.

Why are these switches so important? Because preliminary findings in last year’s crash investigation suggested both fuel-control switches may have moved almost simultaneously, cutting off fuel supply to the aircraft engines.

Even though Boeing and Air India have said the module passed inspections, India’s DGCA wants additional supervised testing — highlighting how sensitive the issue has become ahead of the final crash investigation report.
