Allied forces invasion of occupied Europe - around Koblenz (Coblenz), Germany.



Various shots of American soldiers street fighting, civilians look out of doorway and point to sky. Various shots of city - large areas have been reduced to rubble. M/S officer giving instructions to his men, they are by the Rhine river. L/S of bridge over Rhine that has been destroyed by retreating German army. More shots wrecked city. Various shots GI on field telephone. C/U photograph of Hitler lying in rubble, the frame and glass is shattered. More shots ruins. GIs walk through ruins with guns ready. Various shots tanks advancing. German soldiers surrender with arms up, one has white flag. They are searched by GIs. Travel shot on board tank. M/S walking past sign for "Adolf Hitler bruke".
L/S and M/S group of German soldiers with Red Cross flag walking down road to surrender. Tanks driving through town. L/S ambulance with dead body in foreground. Group German medics surrender, they carry injured on stretchers. Various shots GIs guarding German prisoners by Rhine. Various C/Us one star American General chatting to GIs guarding POWs, he then crosses river in a boat. GIs then usher POWs into boats.
Various shots soldiers walking through city. Ecstatic German civilians come out of buildings and give glasses of champagne to GIs (a white flag flies outside building). Various good C/Us American army cameraman filing. More shots soldiers by river. More shots rubble. We see GIs marching captured Germans past large sign - "Koblenz". Various shots soldiers firing machine guns. More shots tanks advancing.
Note: American army took Koblenz in March of 1945.
