The easiest way to get shapes with crisp lines is to use the Selection Tool.
Tap the Selection Tool and choose either Rectangle or Ellipse on the bottom menu that pops up. You can also tap on Color Fill so the shape automatically fills with the color of your choice of you can drop in the color.
To alter the shape dimensions, tap on the Arrow on the top menu and you can either have it set to Freeform or Uniform to change the size/shape of it.
