IMA - Interactive Music Algorythm

Performance for live improvising musicians and music algorithm "IMA".
Commissioned for the opening of the Cryptography Museum in Moscow.

IMA is an algorithmic music improvisation agent, created by Korney Kretov and Dima Ustinov.
It can be describe as a stochastic musical instrument or as a generative music algorithm.
Either way, the interaction between live human improvisors and IMA is a center of this study. IMA can be controlled by an engineer/conductor, generate the "seed" for musical improvisation, but also it can be used to connect 4 spaces of the museum into one big soundscape. It can help to connect two improvising musicians in different rooms. At this stage of development, IMA can not react to players imput without the ingineers help. That brings its application closer to that of the instrument. We tend to think of it as a mycelium field that helps to generate music ideas.
