James Webb Space Telescope gets results 'too distant' for current theories

Swinburne University Chief Scientist Professor Virginia Kilborn says the James Webb Space Telescope is picking up results “so distant, that they're too distant for our current theories”.

“That’s made astronomers go back and look at whether or not what we are seeing with the telescope is what is being interpreted correctly,” Professor Kilborn told Sky News Australia.

“We’ve had to recalibrate the telescope; it's actually working a little better than we expected.

“We can see really fine detail, and we can see very far back in the early universe.”
