Public art as social engagement | Ed Woodham | TEDxIndianapolis
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. For over 25 years, Ed Woodham has been active in community art, education, and civic interventions across media and culture. Responding to constriction of civil liberties, Woodham created Art in Odd Places (AiOP), presenting visual and performance art to reclaim public spaces in New York City and beyond. AiOP has been produced around the U.S. (including in Indianapolis) and abroad.
In NYC, Woodham teaches City as Site: Public Art as Social Intervention, as well as workshops in politically based public performance through EMERGENYC. For summer 2014, Ed was selected for the drawing(shed) residency IdeasFromElse[W]here to create a performance work for the residents of two housing estates at Lloyd Park, Walthamstow, East London, UK.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
