Chinese Tones Explained with Ma Example | HSK 1 Day 7 ⭐

Today I am teaching Chinese Tones (Shēngdiào 声调), one of the most important parts of Mandarin Chinese pronunciation.

Mandarin Chinese has four main tones. The same syllable can have completely different meanings depending on the tone.

Examples:

mā (妈) – Mother

má (麻) – Hemp / Numb

mǎ (马) – Horse

mà (骂) – Scold

In this lesson, I practice the four tones and show how tones change the meaning of words in Chinese.
