Who Was King Manasseh In The Bible?

It is not how we start it is how we finish. This would be the synopsis of King Manasseh and the key points in this message.

Manasseh became king at the age of 12 and became the longest-reigning king in Israel. Yet, despite ruling for 55 years, there is less than one chapter devoted to Manasseh's reign.

Described as a leader who did evil in the eyes of God. Manasseh’s wickedness includes worshiping idols, mass murder which included the sacrificing of some of his own children and the killing of prophets sent by God. His legacy also includes being the cause of the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple in 586 BCE.

While in Assyrian captivity, Manasseh turned back to God. He humbled himself before the God of his father and prayed for forgiveness. But Manasseh‘s repentance did not stop at merely being sorry for his sin. When he returned to Jerusalem, the Bible explains that he “took away the foreign gods and the idol from the house of the Lord, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the Lord and in Jerusalem; and he cast them out of the city. He also repaired the altar of the Lord, sacrificed peace offerings and thank offerings on it, and commanded Judah to serve the Lord God of Israel…” 2 Chronicles 33 verses 15-16
