Romeo & Juliet was filmed on a single stage at the National Theatre over seventeen days during a global pandemic. It was made possible by support we received from people like you.

Our new film of Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy, in which desire, dreams and destiny collide, brings to life the remarkable backstage spaces of the National Theatre. Here we go behind the scenes with the cast and creative team to see how they made it.

Watch Romeo & Juliet for free at 9pm Sunday 4 April on Sky Arts (UK) and then on-demand on Sky and NOW. The film is also at 9pm Friday 23 April on PBS (US) and then streaming on the PBS app.

Romeo and Juliet risk everything to be together. In defiance of their feuding families, they chase a future of joy and passion as violence erupts around them.

Jessie Buckley (Wild Rose, Judy) and Josh O’Connor (The Crown, God’s Own Country) play Juliet and Romeo. The award-winning cast includes Tamsin Greig, Fisayo Akinade, Adrian Lester, Lucian Msamati, Deborah Findlay.
