State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller held a press briefing as the U.S. seeks to slow Israel’s plans for a ground invasion in order to prioritize the release of hostages held by Hamas and the distribution of aid to Palestinian civilians. Israel said Monday that Hamas was still holding 222 people captive. Hamas on Friday released two American hostages, identified as Judith Raanan and her daughter Natalie, from Evanston, Illinois.
