Slow Stitch Fabric Scroll - Oh Sew Mindful - #sew4thesoul Inspired by Anne Brooke Textile Artist
I recently took part in the #sew4thesoul slow stitch project inspired by Anne Brooke.
I have been exploring this way of working more and more in my practice and find it both a liberating and exciting way to make textile art.
With no real plan in mind, the process of making was intuative, mindful and contemplative.
Every piece has been handstitched with basic embroidery stitches, using pieces from my late grandparents tableclothes, lace from old chair back covers, and even pieces from their net curtains.
The thread colours were determined by the colours of the embroidered flowers on one of the tableclothes, yellow, blue and green.
With a crisp white background the piece has a clean fresh feel, with the flowers as a reminder of spring.
The fabric strip is wound onto a make shift bobbin, and sits on display in my workroom.
