Dr. Michael Heiser discusses whether eternal security is Biblical. He addresses the idea of believing loyalty as a condition of salvation.

Calvinists and reformed theologians claim once saved, you are always saved because God chooses who to save and who is reprobate. This comes from their theology of predestination and election. They believe assurance of salvation means you can't ever leave or shipwreck your faith.

You can't lose your salvation, but you can leave it by not continuing in the faith. That doesn't mean we earn our salvation through moral perfection or performance. It means we have to continue to believe and give our allegiance to Jesus as Lord in order to be saved.

This has been a very contention area of soteriology.
