BMW E92 M3 - Bare Metal Underside Restoration
@Redish Motorsport show the process of a 2011 BMW E92 M3 having our Bare Metal Underside Restoration. This E92 M3 had 40,000 miles and was bought brand new by this owner.
He'd notice corrosion starting to form on certain parts of the Underside of the Chassis and was concerned.
Seeing as he'd bought this car brand new he knew every inch of the M3 and how it had been treated and stored and driven.
So even with his excellently particular treatment of the E92 M3, it was still suffering from Underside Rust growing (which they all seems to have in varying degrees).
After a quick Google search, he found us at @Redish Motorsport and started watching our YouTube Channel here which contained lots of informative and detailed videos on Underside Restorations and he was very impressed with our working standards (his words).
So the car was booked in for the works to be carried out and over the course of around 2 weeks this video was filmed in sections.
This shows how we first assess the vehicles when it arrives, then strip down, then degrease, then assess once more.
Then we move on to the long task of rust removal, and also microscopic corrosion removal (which was everywhere!) which was forming under the factory-applied E-coat!
We bare metalled a huge part of the underside of the care - a serious amount of work went into this - days in fact.
Then a chemical treatment process of the bare metal could be carried out to naturalise the rust and also coat the bare metal in a zinc phosphate coating to help promote adhesion for the next layer of protection.
Moving onto the paint protection stage we used our tried and tested process of Etch Primer, High Build Primer, Sprayable Seam Sealer, and Top Coat Colouring.
Once this had fully cured overnight we could then inject the cavities accurately with a Cavity Wax to make sure the internal sections were protected too.
It goes without saying that this car now has far better protection than when it left the factory, and therefore highly likely to not corrode again.
