BNSF Coal Train Breaks a Coupler on the Joint Line

A southbound BNSF coal train broke a coupler shank just before passing Palmer Lake. The train conducted an emergency stop and crews attempted to repair the coupler. However, the coupler shank was broken off inside the coupler pocket and the car had to be set out. The train was reassembled and it continued on its was south on Colorado's Joint Line. The Joint Line is jointly owned and operated by BNSF and Union Pacific.
