Due to Iran's blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, the USA and its allies are planning something different. They are planning to dig a canal across Oman from the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman so that there is no need to travel through the Strait of Hormuz. This is a $100bn project and takes anywhere between 10 and 15 years. There are geographical hurdles and not an easy task. Though not going to execute now, it is in the pipeline.
