MSF attacks UN Mission in Sudan
The international medical aid agency, Doctors Without Borders, also known as the MSF has launched a scathing attack on the United Nations in South Sudan, particularly its mission there. The MSF says the United Nations Mission in South Sudan is not taking care of the needs of vulnerable and internally displaced people in the country's capital Juba, and elsewhere. The MSF says people live in deplorable conditions that pose serious health hazards which will worsen as the rainy season begins in earnest. However, UNMISS refutes these claims, saying it remains committed to the protection of civilians in all its sites. In a statement, it says it is aware of the health risks civilians face in cramped shelters and, as a result, it has already sought alternative land to accommodate displaced people. Jens Pedersen, the MSF's Humanitarian Affairs Advisor, and from Juba, Joe Contreras, Spokesperson for the United Nations Mission in Sudan provide some clarity.
