This 100-year Old Home Gets a Dramatic Kitchen Remodel and Awesome New Laundry Nook

Designer Joni Spear takes us inside her 100-year old home in Smithfield, Virginia to show us her beautiful kitchen remodel and amazing new laundry area she created near the upstairs bedrooms. , In the kitchen, Spear tore out large sections of walls to open up the floor plan and fit in an island. Black appliances, a black island base and black soapstone countertops mix with light-gray cabinets and brass accents to create drama. A three-dimensional arabesque-pattern backsplash offers another punch of style.

Upstairs, Spear took square footage from a guest bedroom to create a 3-by-6-foot laundry nook in a hallway. The space, which became Spear’s favorite spot in the house, features hexagon tile, linen cabinets, stacked appliances and a small sink.
