India’s National Security Reforms Beginning To Pay Off

NEW DELHI: India’s arms imports fell 33 per cent over the last decade, according to a report released by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (Sipri) earlier this week. This is some achievement for a nation that has for long been over-dependent on countries such as Russia and the United States for arms and other critical defence systems. The reduction in India’s arms import bill is the result of the broader national security reforms that have been under way for the past many years and the government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, as StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale explains in this episode of ‘Simply Nitin’.
