The Perfect 3-Day Cornwall Road Trip (Best Cliffs, Beaches & Coastal Villages)
3 Days in Cornwall — Complete Travel Guide (Castles, Cliffs, Hidden Beaches & More)
🚗 BASE: Travelodge Plymouth — affordable, central, and within 90 minutes of everything Cornwall has to offer.
📍 DAY 1 — Tintagel · Bedruthan Steps · Port Isaac · Newquay
Tintagel Castle — Legendary home of King Arthur. Hike up, cross the bridge, and climb to the statue at the top. English Heritage members enter FREE.
🅿️ Parking: Tintagel Castle car park (EH1 3YN) — paid, short walk to entrance
🥟 Must eat: Cornish Pasty from a local bakery in the village — and yes, there's a fascinating history behind that thick crust!
Bedruthan Steps — A dramatic National Trust clifftop walk (1.5–2 hrs). Beach access is currently closed due to landslides, but the views of the sea stacks are jaw-dropping.
🅿️ Parking: Bedruthan Steps NT car park, Mawgan Porth (TR8 4BH)
Port Isaac — The real-life filming village for Doc Martin and Fisherman's Friends. Wander the narrow harbour streets and soak in the charm. 20–30 minute walk around the village.
🅿️ Parking: Port Isaac main car park on Roscarrock Hill (PL29 3RH) — the village streets are too narrow to drive through
🍽️ Try: Fresh crab sandwiches or a cream tea at one of the harbour cafés
Mawgan Porth & Perranporth Beach (Newquay area) — End the day with a scenic coastal drive and catch the sunset at Perranporth. One of the best sunsets in Cornwall.
🅿️ Parking: Perranporth Beach car park (TR6 0JX) — paid, right by the beach
📍 DAY 2 — Lizard Point · Kynance Cove · St Ives · Land's End · Porthcurno
Lizard Point — The most southerly point of mainland Britain. Short 10-minute walk to the tip. Stunning blue hues and the famous Kelly's Cornish ice cream.
🅿️ Parking: Lizard village car park (TR12 7NQ) — free, 5-minute walk to the point
🍦 Must eat: Kelly's Cornish clotted cream ice cream — sitting on the rocks, obviously
Kynance Cove — One of England's most beautiful beaches. 30-minute hike down — wear proper shoes! Turquoise waters, sea caves, and serpentine rocks. Also a filming location for House of the Dragon.
🅿️ Parking: Kynance Cove NT car park (TR12 7PQ) — paid National Trust car park at the top of the path
🍽️ The Kynance Cove Café at the beach is seasonal but worth it if open — great pasties and hot drinks after the hike
St Ives — One of Cornwall's most beloved towns. Famous for its turquoise harbour, artist heritage, Tate St Ives gallery, and fish and chips on the seafront.
🅿️ Parking: Trenwith car park (TR26 1QX) — the town is pedestrianised near the harbour, so park here and walk down. Arrive early as it fills fast in summer
🍽️ Must eat: Fish and chips on the harbour wall — Pengenna Pasties also has a branch here
Land's End — The most westerly point of mainland England. Visit the famous signpost, find the First and Last House in England, browse the visitor centre. Closes at 6pm.
🅿️ Parking: Land's End car park (TR19 7AA) — paid, right at the site
Porthcurno Beach / Pedn Vounder — Quiet, stunning, white-sand beaches to wind down the evening. Far fewer crowds than St Ives.
🅿️ Parking: Porthcurno car park (TR19 6JX) — paid, short walk to both beaches
🍽️ The Cable Station Inn in Porthcurno is a lovely pub for a sit-down dinner to end the day
📍 DAY 3 — Plymouth · Fistral Beach · Eden Project
Plymouth Barbican & Mayflower Steps — Walk the cobbled streets of Plymouth's historic quarter and stand where the Pilgrim Fathers departed for America in 1620.
🅿️ Parking: Mayflower car park (PL1 2LP) — right in the Barbican area
🍽️ The Barbican has great independent seafood restaurants — Cap'n Jaspers is a Plymouth institution for a quick bite
Fistral Beach, Newquay — England's most famous surf beach. Great waves, great energy, great coffee on the seafront.
🅿️ Parking: Fistral Beach car park (TR7 1HY) — paid, right behind the beach
The Eden Project — A former clay pit transformed into the world's largest indoor rainforest. Tropical biome, Mediterranean biome, and a Bond villain's lair (seriously — Die Another Day was filmed here).
🅿️ Parking: Eden Project main car park (PL24 2SG) — large paid car park on site. Book tickets online in advance to save money
🍽️ Multiple cafés inside — the Eden Kitchen uses locally sourced Cornish ingredients
💡 Tips Before You Go
🏛️ English Heritage membership pays for itself at Tintagel alone — covers dozens of UK sites
🥾 Wear proper walking shoes — Kynance Cove and Bedruthan Steps especially
🚗 Download offline maps — signal can be patchy in rural Cornwall
☀️ Go early — St Ives and Land's End get very busy in summer, especially on weekends
🎟️ Book Eden Project tickets online — cheaper than on the door
🎬 Fun fact: Several spots in this video have been used as filming locations — Kynance Cove for House of the Dragon, the Eden Project for James Bond's Die Another Day, and Port Isaac for Doc Martin!
📌 All information correct at time of filming. Entry fees, opening hours and parking charges may vary — always check ahead.
