Hey kids! Its you good buddy Uncle Ben here back again with a brand new installment of Weekend Wankshop!!!
One of the questions i get asked the most is "what kind of shampoo and conditioner do you use?"... but one of the SECOND most-asked questions i get is "how can i eliminate tension, build speed, and get my doggone hands in sync with each other?!?!!"
Now, that is TECHNICALLY 3 questions, but there is one answer: SPEED BURSTS!
Practicing licks and exercises with bursts of speed rather than straight up 16ths or sextuplets is the BEST way to identify problem areas in your playing; by constantly switching from medium to high speeds, like this lick does, you can easily figure out if you're adding tension in either of your arm hands when you kick it into high gear, isolate those problem areas, and eliminate them!
This lick is in the key of E minor and could be used as a great practice exercise or some nice soloing ideas. Practice it on ALL string sets (yes, even the G and B) and alternate pick everything! A winner is you!
