VLOG: How Do You Test A Wiring Harness According To DOD Standards?

Hello! My name is Steve Floyd, Shop Foreman at InterConnect Wiring. Today, we’re going to be showing you how we test an aircraft wiring harness according to the Department of Defense standards.

Testing A Wiring Harness

Here we have a wiring harness that’s ready for electrical testing. This harness will be delivered to the United States Air Force, and is thus held to specific requirements for the Department of Defense. This is included but not limited to electrical resistance testing, continuity testing, and empty cavity testing. Each reference designator has its own test cable connector. It’s called a “mating connector.” Each one will plug into the DIT-MCO machine and go to its mating reference designator. It will then shoot voltage of electricity through each of the reference designators and count back each error, if there are any, and fill out a final report from DIT-MCO.

That’s how we maintain electrical continuity for F-16 and other electrical wiring harnesses. Once the testing is complete, the DIT-MCO will report a final report that we can keep for our internal records.

Thanks for watching and tuning in. We are InterConnect Wiring. Be sure to check out our website for more future VLOGs and updates.

Connections Matter.
