This was my very first project as a costume designer after moving to LA nine years ago. The author invited me to design costumes for her book tour for The 52nd, and to this day, it remains one of my absolute favorites. It was such a fun and enriching experience diving into Aztec history, empire, and culture, and finding creative ways to incorporate those elements into the designs.

I loved working with feathers and pushing myself to experiment with materials I had never used before. One of my former bosses in Las Vegas generously gave me a collection of her late mother’s jewelry, and many of the pieces fit perfectly into the costume—making it even more special.

Everything was handmade: hand-painted, hand-dyed, and crafted from the ground up. It was an incredible opportunity, and I’m so grateful to have been part of it. Thank you again, Dela!
