From 2006 to 2013 Anderson Silva was unstoppable, he was the UFC Middleweight Champion for 7 years and still holds the record for the longest title reign in UFC history at 2,457 days.

During 2006 and 2012, Silva had a then record of 10 consecutive UFC title defenses.

What Made Him So Dangerous:

Anderson Silva invented his own style which inspired fighters like UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and Jon Jones. His takedown defense relied heavily on his footwork, which also helped him to focus on counter strikes.

He was Muay Thai striker, but Silva also had black belts in Judo, Taekwondo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu making him a threat wherever the fight went.. He was such a dangerous striker he often taunted his opponents, and played around in the octagon because of such a huge stand-up advantage.

Anderson Silva's striking ability was above every other fighter in history apart from Israel Adesanya, he is hands down the best counter striker that has ever fought in the UFC with the ability to knock you out with his elbows, knees, kicks and punches with insane speed & accuracy. Head movement straight out of the Matrix, a underrated ground game and solid takedown defense. He was truly the one of the most feared fighters when he was in his prime!

The End of an Era:

Coming in as a huge underdog. At UFC 162 Chris Weidman was given zero chance to be the one to end Anderson Silvas title run, and going into the fight Silva didn't see Weidman as a threat and proceed to taunt him as he usually did with his previous opponents, however the clowning around would backfire as in round 2 of the fight, Weidman fired a left hook that separated Anderson Silva from consciousness then a following 3 shots on the ground to an already unconscious Silva in one of the most shocking moments in MMA history..

Many saw this as a fluke so in their rematch, Chris Weidman rocked Silva and almost finished him then in round 2 Weidman checked a leg kick that broke the tibia and fibula of Silva's left leg. The fight was ruled a TKO win for Chris Weidman due to injury and it turned out to be the last title fight of Anderson Silva's fighting career and the end of his prime years in the UFC.
