IBM PS/2 - Part 1: the Model 77 conks out

We take a look at an IBM PS/2 Model 77. The high end machine ran a 486 DX2 at 66 MHz with up to 32 MB of memory, a SCSI interface, and had one of the first and best accelerated graphics card, supporting XGA resolution. Beautiful hardware! But inside, everything is nicely proprietary and incompatible, courtesy of IBM marketeers, which were obviously up to no good. Which is going to make our life difficult if it dies. Which it does.
