Peptide bond

This lecture explains about peptide bond formation and about the ramachandran plot and protein structure analysis of the peptide bonds. A peptide bond is a chemical bond shaped between two molecules when the carboxyl crew of 1 molecule reacts with the amino team of the opposite molecule, releasing a molecule of water (H2O).
This can be a dehydration synthesis reaction (often referred to as a condensation reaction), and most often happens between amino acids.
The ensuing CO-NH bond is known as a peptide bond, and the resulting molecule is an amide.
The four-atom functional group -C(=O)NH- is referred to as an amide team or (in the context of proteins) a peptide crew.
Polypeptides and proteins are chains of amino acids held together via peptide bonds, as is the backbone of PNA.
