Rainbow Fizz
Hydrochloric acid (plus universal indicator), is added to a burette. Sodium Carbonate is added, via a funnel, and pretty colours are made.
At this point, Mr Bell witters on about gas, as the burette looks prettier and prettier (skip to about 2:30 to see the effect at its best). Nothing gets set on fire, nobody gets burned, and in many ways, the whole event is a grave disappointment. Ho hum.
At least nobody tries to claim that hydrochloric acid is an alkali. *phew*
