"Bunny Boy" - GRIZZLY TALES read by Jamie Rix
"Bunny Boy" won't eat his greens, but knows a bunny who will!
A new GRIZZLY TALE (read by the author, Jamie Rix) will be posted every FRIDAY at 5.00pm
Grizzly Tales are short stories written for children. They combine horror and comedy to create a series of grotesque cautionary tales about badly behaved children and the horrible comeuppances that befall them when they don’t change their ways.
Ideal for lovers of squeam!
There are over 110 tales, all written by Jamie Rix and published over the last twenty years in twelve volumes; Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids, Ghostly Tales for Ghastly Kids, Fearsome Tales for Fiendish Kids and More Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids. More recently the stories have been published in eight collections by Orion Children’s books under the title of Grizzly Tales. In each collection the stories have been grouped under the titles, Nasty Little Beasts, Gruesome Grown Ups, The “ME!” Monsters, Freaks of Nature, Blubbers and Sicksters, Terror-Time Toys!, Superzeroes and The Gnaughty Gnomes of “No!”
Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids won the Smarties Prize when it first came out in 1990.
The stories have been adapted as animations for CITV and Nickelodeon, winning several BAFTAs and a Broadcast Award for Best Children’s Programme of 2012
These tales have collected an avid following. Jamie received this letter from a teacher at St Neot’s School in Hampshire;
“When I have been reading Fearsome Tales for Fiendish Kids aloud to a mixed age group in the evenings, the room has become packed with eager children ready to hear more. I think it’s the total silence then the sudden outbursts of “Erh” or “Yuk!” that pulls the crowd! Thank you for so much fun.”
And Victor Lewis Smith in the Evening Standard came across the stories quite by chance.
“This beautifully conceived and executed series follows in the centuries-old Grimm tradition of sadistic fairy-tale fantasy, and there’s something reminiscent of Heinrich Hoffman’s “Shockheaded Peter” about the fiendishly cruel (yet satisfyingly appropriate) fates that befall badly behaved children in these modern-day cautionary tales”
