i could talk about the meaning and the development of scott and stiles's friendship for hours but the main thing is that i truly believe their relationship is the core of teen wolf. as traumatic as s5 was for them both, it was the perfect aftermath to 3b and showed that those are two individuals who mean so much to each other couldn't be more different. while scott is a leader who follows his heart, stiles is the person behind him who follows his gut. one still puts faith in people even after betrayal and the other no longer trusts anyone. they balance each other out; not having the other makes them unsteady.
