Stockholm+50 Opening Session (Speech)
Stockholm, Sweden
June 2, 2022
Secretary Robert Borje of the Climate Change Commission delivers the Philippine national statement during the Plenary Session II that highlights national statements and statements from the United Nations (UN) Member States, system and stakeholders at the Stockholm+50 International Meeting on 2 June 2022.
Secretary Borje urged climate change action based on climate justice, stressing that “those most responsible for climate change, those with the most resources need to do more” for the developing nations who are the least responsible for climate change yet have become most vulnerable and at risk.
Secretary Borje also called attention to climate finance as an essential part of climate justice and called on the “unlocking of climate finance now for developing nations.”
Secretary Borje likewise underscored the need for a paradigm shift in building resiliency, sustainable development and disaster risk and crisis management, going beyond “Build Back Better” to “Build Right at First Sight”, noting that resources have become even more limited.
Stockholm+50 is a High-Level meeting convened by the UN General Assembly in Stockholm, Sweden on 2-3 June 2022.
