Duck Hunting 2018 : Find Open Water, Find The Birds

On this duck hunt I was lucky enough to get an invite from a buddy to go and hunt a very big piece of water. The waterfowl hunting has been good since the freeze up, but ice has made it hard to launch any type of boat and most banks are froze in. We hunted a stationary blind and set out 3 dozen mallard decoys and a dozen buffleheads. Over the course of the morning we saw a good few mallards, redheads, bluebills, and plenty of mergansers and buffleheads. Not a ton of ducks came into us but the ones that did mostly came home with us. I was also thrilled to get my first ever wigeon, and the first bluebills in a long time. I'm hoping to go back and do more diver hunting in this area in the future and maybe try to get on some goose hunts.
