How to Add Miter Splines to a Box | Strong & Decorative Joinery

Miter splines are one of the best ways to strengthen box corners while also adding a beautiful decorative detail.

In this video, I use a miter spline jig on the table saw to cut precise spline slots into a keepsake box, then create thin cherry splines using a crosscut sled for a perfect friction fit. After gluing the splines into place, I trim them flush with a Japanese flush cut saw and sand everything smooth.

The contrasting cherry against the main wood adds both strength and visual character to the finished box.
