- First Ph-developed high-power hybrid rocket, launched

TALA, the first high-powered hybrid rocket developed in the Philippines successfully lifted off at 11:57 AM Saturday from Crow Valley Gunnery Range, Capas, Tarlac. It was able to deploy its Can Satellite payload before going into fast descent and eventual deployment of its main parachute for safe landing.

The rocketry team of TALA has retrieved the rocket body and is now working on the collection and analysis of launch data to determine the rocket flight details. As a hybrid rocket, TALA used both solid fuel and liquid oxidizer, which makes handling, shipping, and storage much safer. The manufacturing cost is also lower.

The technology demonstration of a hybrid propelled rocket is seen to further stimulate space science and technology applications research in order to advance innovation and development of our own space assets for research, exploration, and commercial activities.

The launch is made possible through the partnership of the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) with the Philippine Air Force of the Colonel Ernesto Ravina Air Base, the 710th Special Operations Wing, Air Force Research and Development Center, Air Force Systems Engineering Office, 950th Cyberspace and Electronic Warfare Wing, Air Force Public Affairs Office, and the 790th Air Base Groups.

-Canada to boost PH maritime security in Indo Pacific
Amid rising tensions in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), Canada said it sees China as an "increasingly disruptive power" and disclosed that it will invest $700 million to help secure the Indo-Pacific region.

In an exclusive interview with CNN Philippines' The Final Word, Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said Ottawa's stance on the East Asian giant is clear and reaffirmed the nation's position against threats in the WPS.

"Our stance regarding China is clear," she said. "We believe that the country is an increasingly disruptive power, which wants to change international norms to its favor."

"What we want to do is to continue to work with partners to make sure that we respect the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, which is so key to this region," the minister added. "We recognize the fact that the 2016 arbitral decision in favor of the Philippines is final and binding."

The official also conveyed Canada’s willingness to help the Philippines address “violations of its maritime sovereignty.”

She said one way of doing it is by providing satellite data to assist in tracking illegal fishing.
