🫵🏻 In the context of the Indian tax system, TDS is a mechanism for collecting income tax at the very source of income.
🫵🏻 How it works: A person or entity (the "deductor") who makes a specified payment, such as salary, rent, or commission, is responsible for deducting a certain percentage of tax from that payment. The deductor then remits the tax to the government on behalf of the recipient (the "deductee").
🫵🏻 Taxpayer credit: The amount of tax deducted at source is reflected in the recipient's tax documents (like Form 26AS). The recipient can then claim credit for the TDS when filing their annual income tax return.
🫵🏻 Purpose: The system provides a consistent flow of tax revenue to the government and helps prevent tax evasion.
