Africa focus | Update on the African Continental Free Trade Area
Turning our focus to matters of the African Union now, Tanzania is reported to be the latest African state to ratify the agreement establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area.
This is an initiative or trade pact to form a free trade area that will ultimately connect trading among all African countries. It basically aims to create a single market for goods and services in order to strengthen the economic integration of the African Continent.
It was brokered by the African Union in 2018 - at the time having the go-ahead by 44 of 55 member states. Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat, shares more.
